Back Row: Chuck Huselid, Ken Treloar, Mel Bengston, Warren Brandt, Bob Westby, Gerry O’Connor.

The Indians finished 2nd in the conference behind Danube, but upset DHS in triple overtime of the semi-finals of the District.  The game was recognized as the “roughest” game ever seen in District play.  Renville was 30 of 45 from the free throw line while Danube shot 19 of 40 from the charity stripe.  Ten players fouled out of the game.  RHS beat Bird Island in the finals and then lost to Granite Falls in the first round of the Region 3 Tournament.  It was Coach Bob Greenslit's first year at Renville High School.

Although Renville beat Danube twice during the year, they finished 2nd in the 212 Conference.  Up until 1955, the conference counted only twelve games for the conference title. Both of the Danube-Renville games were counted as non-conference games.  Renville won both games, 54-34 and 50-44.  The 2nd game was moved to the new Danube gym to accommodate the standing room only crowds that the rivalry drew.  Up until the state tournament, their only loss came to Bird Island, 67-64, when Bird Island's, Bob Robinson scored 39 points. In the state tournament the Indians beat Hibbing 51-48, then lost to Bemidji, 46-44 on a last second shot, and Austin, 83-67 for 3rd place.
