The Hector Bulldogs and Stewart Gophers tied for the 212 Conference Championship in 1967 with a 6-1 league record. The Bulldogs only loss of the season came to Bird Island, while Stewart lost to Hector. This marks the fourth time that Hector has shared the title in addition to six outright championships since the conference started in the fall of 1947. Stewart has had two titles and three shared crowns. This marked the third time that Hector and Stewart tied for the league title in the last seven years. The two schools also tied in 1961 and 1965. The rival coaches of the great battles between Hector and Stewart were Bob Hage, who came to Hector in the fall of 1956, and Ken Gulbrandson, who came to Stewart in the fall of 1954. Hector had a 21 game winning streak during the regular season, but was upset by Bird Island in the 6th week of regular season of this year at Bird Island's field. The Panthers recovered a fumble on Hector's 6 yard line and scored three plays later. The Bulldogs lost four fumbles, and were only 3 for 19 in the passing game. Hector led the league on offense with a 23.5 point per game average. Stewart led the conference on defense with a 5.7 point per game average.

1968 212 Conference Basketball Champions: Hector Bulldogs
Front Row: mgr. R.Hauer, D.Hauer, R.Penkert, L.Rouna, N.Christensen, D.Hauer,
The Hector Bulldogs won the 1968 212 Conference Basketball Championship with a perfect 14-0 in league play. Basketball coaching legend, Perry Doney, returned to his home town in 1966 and immediately turned Hector's basketball program into one of the best in District 12. Doney had coached many years in South Dakota, Canby and Wood Lake, Minnesota, before returning to Hector. The Bulldogs immediately responded to the “Doney technique” of defense, and team balance on offense. Four of the five starters averaged in double figures for the season. Hector ended their regular season with a perfect 18-0 record. In the District 12 Tournament they won three more games to push their record to 21-0. Hector beat Hutchinson, 62-58 in the finals. In Region 3 play, the Bulldogs lost to eventual Region 3 champion, Granite Falls, 50-46.
In seasonal play, teams in the conference were scoring more points than ever before. Teams were consistently scoring in the 70’s and offensive team averages were higher than any time in 212 Conference history. Wally Hagen of Sacred Heart, was the leading scorer in the conference with 468 points. He scored 46 points against Stewart.
