While Hector was on their way to a three year dominance of the conference, Renville had won or tied for the league championship the past five years.
In District 12 Tournament play, the top three teams in the conference made their way to the semi-finals. Renville won their first district championship since 1959 by beating Buffalo Lake, Danube and Olivia. In the Region 3 Tournament, the Indians lost to the Regional Champion, Walnut Grove, 78-72. In the state tournament, Walnut Grove blew a 17 point lead and lost to Moorhead on the first day of the tournament.
