1965 212 Conference Co-Champions: Brownton Bears and Renville Indians
The 1965 212 Conference Basketball race ended in a three way tie with Brownton, Danube and Renville ending the season with a 9-5 record in conference play. Going into the last week of the season Brownton could have won the title outright, but was upset by Sacred Heart, 76-65. The conference could have been a four way tie, but Stewart upset pre-season favorite Bird Island, 67-82 in the finale of the season. Stewart's 6’6 junior center, Ted Burke, scored 42 points in that game. The conference record for most points scored in a conference game is 49, held by Bob Bruggers in 1962. Never in the history of the conference had the league been as balanced from the top to the bottom of the standings as in 1965. In District 12 play, Bird Island and Renville lost in the semi-final round to Norwood and Hutchinson. Norwood won the district title.

1965 212 Conference Track Champions: Bird Island Panthers
The Bird Island Panthers, winner of the first two track meets in 1952 and 1953, won the 1965 meet that was held at Buffalo Lake. It was the first time that the meet was held on the Buffalo Lake track. The track proved to be soft and times were somewhat slow for a conference meet. The leading point winners for the Panthers were John Naujokas, who won the 440 and placed in three other events. Brad Danielson won the high hurdles and placed in two other events. Tom Saunders placed in three events. Stewart's Ted Burke threw the shot put 52’1 to break Larry Seehusen's (Danube) record of 51’3 set in 1956. He also threw the discus 150 feet to break Gary Kaiser's (Danube) record of 135’7, set in 1958.

The Danube Hawks and Renville Indians tied for the 212 Conference Championship on the last week of league play. Renville held a one game lead going into the last game when Danube won, 8-5. Norwood won the District 12 and Region 3 Tournament. All of the 212 Conference teams were eliminated after the semi-final round. Renville was eliminated because of pitching rule violation that did not allow a pitcher to throw more than 14 innings within three days. In District 12 play, Stewart beat Cosmos 3-1, when Ted Burke threw a 1 hitter. It was Stewart's first win since 1962.
