1958 Conference Champions: Stewart Gophers
The Stewart Gophers won the 1958 212 Conference Championship with a perfect 8-0 record. A senior dominated team with 7 starters returning from the 1957 conference runner-up team, rolled through the conference by shutting out 5 of their 8 opponents. The Gophers scored 139 points for 17.4 average. On defense they gave up only 26 points for a 3.3 average. They ended the season with a 14 game winning streak. The 1958 Gophers were led by an outstanding offensive line of All-Conference tackles Pat Maiers and Ed Kirchoff, center John Lipke, and guards Dick Navara and freshman Willard Carlson. Primarily a running team, halfbacks Delano Wacker and Tom Koopman combined for 1150 rushing yards. Wacker led the conference in scoring with 13 touchdowns. Stewar'ts toughest games of the season were the third game of season with a 19-12 win over arch rival Hector. The 4th game of the season was a hard fought game at Brownton. Brownton had their best team in many years and went through the season with a 7-1 record. Stewart scored two touchdowns in the second quarter and then shut down the Brownton offense to win the game, 13-0.

1959 Conference Champions: Brownton Bears
Coming off a state tournament trip in 1958, the Brownton Bears won the 1959 212 Conference Championship with a 13-1 record. Led by returning starters Jim Vinar, Ken Abram and Dick Peik, the Bears finished the regular season with 17-1 record. 64 forward, Ken Abram and 58 guard, Dick Peik were all-conference selections in 1957 and 1958. 65 center, Jim Vinar was returning for his 3rd year as a starter. Dick Peik finished his basketball career with 1218 points. Ken Abram finished his career with 1183 points. Renville finished in 2nd place in the conference with 11-3 record. In District 12 Tournament play, Brownton was upset in the first round by Sacred Heart. One week earlier Brownton drubbed Sacred Heart by a score of 92-37. The defending District 12 and Region 3 champions were upset 41-39. Sacred Heart played their best game of the year at Olivia by controlling the boards and taking selective shots. It is considered to be the biggest upset in District 12 history. The night before the game, Browntons Jim Vinar and Ken Abram were involved in a roll over car accident. Neither player was seriously hurt, but still suffered shock and were held out of the first quarter of the game. Renville went on to win the District Championship with four juniors and one sophomore. They beat Bird Island 64-59, Hutchinson 64-49, and Glencoe 81-70 in the semi-finals. In the final game against Olivia, Renville guard, Frank Standfuss sank 2 free throws with no time remaining on the clock to win the game 55-54. They lost their first game of the region and finished the season with 14-8 record.

1959 Conference Track Champion: Buffalo Lake Bison
The Buffalo Lake Bison won their 4th straight conference track championship by scoring 70 ½ points. Stewart was runner-up with 47 1/1 points. The Bison won 7 first places with Ron Koopman and Merle Bryan of Buffalo Lake, and Danube's Orville Molenaar being double winners.

Behind the pitching of senior John Waller, the Renville Indians won the 1959 Baseball 212 Conference Championship. Waller struck out 49 batters in 31 innings to lead RHS to a 7-0 regular season schedule. RHS won the West division, while Hector won the East. In the championship game, Renville beat Hector, 6-1, behind the 2 hit pitching of Waller. Outstanding players on the 1959 RHS team were pitchers John Waller and Howie White, catcher Jim Fredrickson, 2nd baseman Frank Standfuss, 1st baseman Jerome Jacobs, and shortstop Jim Dolan. In the District 12 tournament, the Indians beat Buffalo Lake 7-5, then lost to Brownton 1-0. The game matched two of the best pitchers in the 212 Conference, John Waller of Renville and Dick Peik of Brownton. Brownton won the game 1-0. In the semi-finals, Norwood beat Brownton and Stewart beat Danube. Norwood won the District 12 Championship over Stewart, 5-4.
