1955 212 Football Champions:  Hector Bulldogs

     The Hector Bulldogs dominated the 1955 212 Conference with an 8-0 record.  Their toughest game of the year was against Buffalo Lake in the 4th game of the season.   Buffalo Lake finished the year with a 7-1 record. The Bulldogs shut out the Bison 25-0.  Hector scored a total a 225 points on offense for a 28.1 per game average.  On defense they gave up only 26 points for a 3.3 per game average.  Outstanding players for the 1955 Bulldogs were backs, Don Hennessy and Francis Krentz, End Steve Sprieter and guard, Gary Raitz.    Hector ended the season with a 19 game winning streak, and Coach Wayne Dietz won his 50th game of his career, his 45th in Hector.  It would be his the last year in Hector.  Coach Dietz came to Hector in the fall of 1948.

1956 Conference Co-Champions:  Buffalo Lake (11-3) and Sacred Heart (11-3)

     Sacred Heart and Buffalo Lake tied for the 1956 212 Conference Basketball Championship with 11 and 3 records.  Sacred Heart ended their season with a 13-6 final record and Buffalo Lake finished with a 14-7 record.  The Stewart Gophers broke a 39 game losing streak during the regular season by defeating Silver Lake 42-24.  In District 12 tournament play, Buffalo Lake beat Renville 61-54 in the semifinals and then lost to Hutchinson in the finals, 75-47.

1956 212 Track Champions:  Buffalo Lake Bison

     The Buffalo Lake Bison won their 3rd straight 212 Conference championship by dominating the meet held at the Bird Island fair grounds.  Seven records were broken on a perfect day for track in Bird Island.  The most impressive record breakers were Larry Seehusen of Danube who broke the shot put record by 10 feet with a throw that went        51 feet, 8 inches. Gale Damhof of Danube also had an impressive day when he went 20’2 ½ in the long jump for a 212 Conference record.  All 5 runners that placed in the 440 yard dash broke the conference record with Stewart's Arvin Buss placing 1st and breaking the record with a 54.2.  Buffalo Lake's Dale Moritz won the Mile event over Hector's Paul Novotny in a photo finish and a new record with a time of 5.06.6.

     Hutchinson won the District 12 Track Meet in a rain soaked meet at Hutchinson.  Larry Seehusen broke the shot put record at 48’9.

1956 Conference Baseball Champions:  Hector Bulldogs

 The Bulldogs won the eastern division of the 212 baseball conference by defeating the Brownton Bears 6-3.  In the championship game they defeated Renville 18-1.  In 1955 Renville defeated Hector in the finals in 10 innings.  Outstanding players for 1956 Bulldogs were pitcher- outfielder, Gary Raitz and pitcher- shortstop, Steve Spreiter.  The team featured 6 sophomores in the starting line-up that eventually won the district championship in 1958.
